What a market last week! We broke records on sales and attendance- almost 500 people at our hyper-local market! The weather has really been coming out for us as well. Thanks to everyone who comes and supports the community and our local farmers. A want to take a second and give a BIG thanks to Puente, Post, TomKat, HSA, Calfresh, and to Cindy at the Country Store who all make the market possible. Being at the market and having that time to share with the community really is the highlight of my week.
It’s hard to believe, but August is already here and we’ve decided we’re going to start this month off with a bang and have a raffle!! We’re doing things a little different this raffle. This time we will be raffling prizes off at the end of every hour and to win you need to be present. So the times in which you need to make sure you’re at the market are 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, and 7:00! Some of the prizes include: a Duartes pie, a tour for two at Harley Farms, a gift card for the market, a $100 gift card to Hassett Hardware in HMB, and a complete Wii with games and different controllers! Tickets will cost a dollar and you can buy them at the Puente booth!
The line up for this week is a good one. We have Blue House who are excited about bringing their blackberries, Fly Girl Farm who will be packing the dry farmed tomatoes, and Farmageddon with their eggs and Ramono beans. Also coming to the market are some sweets. State Street Honey will be bringing the… honey of course. Last time he brought some honey comb which was a real treat!
Extra Fun This Week
Of course we have guests coming to the market like always. Every Day will be womaning the bike repair booth. I was riding yesterday and popped my front tire- that kind of moment makes me so thankful to have Every at the market. She’s there to help- so bring your bike in!
HMB Library will be returning to take over children activities. I was promised the button making machine and many more fun projects! We’ve been loving the amount of kids who have been coming and enjoying the activities. Keep it up ! (and buy some strawberries while you’re at it)
One of our market sponsors will be attending this week. POST (Peninsula Open Space Trust) will be tabling and talking about land conservation. Again, we’re really thankful to have them as one of our sponsors who make the market possible. Thank you POST!
The band Nothing, but Fun will be playing for us this week. I’m pretty sure they have played for the market every year we’ve been open. They’re making a trip down from the city and we’re excited to have them!
Lastly, CALLING ALL CALFRESH and WIC users! The last two weeks we decided to change the amount of money that we doubled at the market from $10 to $20. It was so successful that we’ve decided to keep it going. SO, if you have a Calfresh EBT card or WIC coupons and you give us $20 worth of either we will then give you $4o in tokens to spend at the market. We also double the money of low income families so if you think you might qualify come talk to us at the Puente booth! We really do want to put more local produce in your refrigerators!
I have a feeling it’s going to be another perfect day this Thursday. I hope to see you all there.
